The role

Bristol Veterinary School is offering exciting opportunities, for open-ended, full time and part-time positions, Pathway 3, Clinical Demonstrators to join our existing team. There is an opportunity work on a full-time basis for the first 12 months. The successful candidate will become a member of a diverse community of dynamic clinical teaching staff providing support for veterinary students and veterinary nursing students across our various clinical sites, primarily based on our Langford Campus.

What will you be doing?

Approximately 50% of your role will comprise the clinical teaching of our final year veterinary students, primarily within the Small Animal Hospital but with opportunities to work across other species (Farm, Equine). The role is best suited to a candidate with mixed clinical experience, although we can provide training to refresh your skills with less familiar species. You will work closely with our referral clinicians, primary care practitioners, nurses, auxiliary staff and other members of the Clinical Demonstrator Team to facilitate clinical teaching around a busy caseload and related small-group practical teaching.

You will work to support the students in their learning from a rich, diverse and challenging caseload, playing an important role in enhancing the student experience and emphasising the primary care relevance of the cases that have been referred. As a practitioner with primary care clinical experience and a passion for teaching, you are not expected to have referral-level experience or expertise.

The remaining 50% of your role will involve supporting development and delivery of classroom-based and practical teaching, across the broader curriculum. We are delivering a blended curriculum, with clinical and practical teaching occurring face-to-face, and other teaching activities occurring both in the classroom and online. Our Clinical Demonstrator team provide teaching support across a range of practicals for our veterinary and veterinary nursing students, supporting student development in animal handling and clinical skills, across a range of species. There may also be opportunities to support anatomy practical teaching.

You will provide feedback and contribute to assessment as well as supporting the administration associated with formal university teaching rotations. As part of the clinical educational team, you will be supported to contribute to the development of teaching and assessment and research outputs in the area of veterinary education.

Additional teaching responsibilities may include acting as a facilitator for the new Accelerated Graduate Entry Veterinary Programme which uses a case-based approach to learning (CBL); with appropriate training and support, you will enable students to achieve the expected learning outcomes from clinically based CBL scenarios. You may also contribute to the development of teaching materials for our programmes
