Research Assistant: £27,116 – £31,406 or Research Associate: £33,309 – £40,927

A position is available to work on algorithms for computational displays with a starting date between July and September 2022. The project aims to create images that would appear highly realistic to the human eye and convey an almost complete set of depth cues. This will be achieved by combining high dynamic range, binocular stereo and multiple focal depths in a single display setup. The goal is to determine what factors are the most relevant for achieving a highly realistic look of the displayed scenes. The outcome of the project will help to define requirements for future display technologies, rendering, representation and storage of visual content.

The successful candidate is expected to work with a prototype of a novel high-dynamic-range multifocal stereo display (), be responsible for its calibration and create rendering and processing algorithms for them.

Essential requirements: Candidates should have a degree in computer science or a closely related discipline, with experience and interest in computer vision, computer graphics and/or colour. The candidates must be familiar with fundamental computer graphics methods (rasterization and ray-tracing). The position requires excellent programming skills.

Desirable skills: It is desirable that a candidate has knowledge of psychophysical models of human vision (contrast sensitivity, masking), colour, and psychophysical experimental methods. The evidence of such experience should be ideally supported by publications.

This position can be full time or part time.

This position can be filled by an appropriate candidate at a research assistant or research associate level, depending on relevant qualifications and experience. Appointment at a research associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience). Where a PhD has yet to be awarded, an appointment will initially be made as a research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded.
