Western General Hospital

Pharmacy Technician Band 5

£26,104 32,915

4.0 WTE Permanent

NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh City, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services. We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

The Western General Hospital (WGH) is a large teaching hospital with an established reputation for offering the best practice across a wide variety of specialist services. It is also home to the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, which is a leading centre for cancer services provision.

We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacy technicians to join our team at the WGH. This post provides a broad range of exposure to different aspects of Pharmacy service delivery at WGH. As it is a rotational post, the postholders will be working in the following areas: aseptic dispensing, dispensary, clinical pharmacy, clinical trials and at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre. In each of these areas postholders will play a senior role and will be expected to work autonomously as part of a team, including undertaking some leadership responsibilities and deputising for section leads. There will also be opportunities to undertake service improvement activities and mentorship roles to support other junior members of the Pharmacy team.

Candidates will have gained experience working in a patient focussed environment using their knowledge and skills to improve patient care and promote optimal outcomes from medicines. This is an excellent post for a Band 4 pharmacy technician with suitable qualifications looking for progression or a Band 5 pharmacy technician seeking for expansion of your portfolio.

Applicants must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Dispensary Checking Technician and HNC qualifications or equivalent are desirable.
