Job Title – Senior System Security Engineer

Role Purpose:

  • To ensure current security best practice is applied to all systems and infrastructure ensuring the correct support procedures are followed, whilst portraying a confident approach to users and colleagues.
  • Based within either our office in Solihull or Chippenham, you will ensure all issues or queries are managed and handled professionally, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • The post holder will have responsibility to ensure the overall security of our network and systems.
  • The post holder will be expected to maintain both their technical qualifications to a high level and their current security knowledge to ensure all new vulnerabilities and issues are identified and mitigated as soon as practicable.
  • Work alongside and deputise for the Senior Systems Engineer when required.
  • Contribute towards the continued development of IT systems and controls that will have a positive effect on the business.
  • Main Accountabilities:

  • Security of all systems both network, desktop and externally hosted (Amazon Web Services).
  • Maintaining the highest levels of security of Cloud based hosting and providing reporting on all aspects of these services.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of our IPS/IDS Systems, ensuring best practice on our network and our systems.
  • Review 3rd party software updates and ensure that the business has visibility of any critical updates, ensure patches are applied in a timely manner to maintain the highest levels of security.
  • Ensure our Server infrastructure maintains a high level of security, through both best practice, defining standard builds and hardening of existing infrastructure.
  • Research & evaluation of software & hardware for security enhancements.
  • Testing systems for vulnerabilities in hardware and software.
  • Analysing and implementing new security protocols and technologies
  • Maintaining switch and firewall infrastructure and ensuring compliance with policy and all gateways are secure.
  • Work with the business to ensure security and best practice is strongly embedded in both our culture and policies.
  • Management and organisation of Penetration testing and remediation both internally and externally. Maintain a wide suite of vulnerability scanning options to identify issues promptly.
  • Regular reporting of issues to the IT Manager, recommendations and enhancements for all systems from a security perspective.
  • Technical Guidance and input to the Business Continuity plans and procedures.
  • Actively engaging with risk and security based governance committees to ensure information security is driven through the business. Including producing relevant MI where applicable..
  • Technical Skills/Competencies:

  • Cisco CCNA or above
  • Strong Networking Skills (Centos 0
  • Strong Linux skills Centos 7 / Redhat
  • Strong Apache skills
  • Recognised Security Qualification
  • Amazon Web Services Experience
  • Any Microsoft Qualifications Advantageous
  • Extensive Knowledge Firewalls, Switches and IPS/ IDS solutions
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Active Directory at Current Server Levels
  • Glassfish / Payara Application Servers (Java platform)
  • MariaDB / MYSQL
  • WAF Experience (Imperva)
  • Security Monitoring tools IE Rapid 7
  • Strong AWS Experience
  • Knowledge and Expertise:

  • 7 years solid experience in a similar capacity within an enterprise environment
  • Have a positive attitude and pleasant manner
  • Have good time management skills
  • Recognised project management qualifications would be desirable
  • Have good interpersonal skills
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Driving licence (Multi-site)
