Marine Specialist (Logistics), BVS UK

Bureau Veritas are actively seeking a Marine Specialist to join Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore Ltd (BVS UK).

Established in 2010, BVS UK (formerly Maritime Assurance & Consulting Ltd (MAC)) has a large offshore operator and marine contractor client base. BVS UK provides high quality services in Dynamic Positioning Assurance & Consulting, Engineering Assurance & Consulting, Marine Warranty, Marine Assurance & Consulting and Project Assurance & Consulting. In 2016, BVS UK was acquired by Bureau Veritas, reaffirming our companys ambition to strengthen our North Sea presence and to offer a wider service portfolio to the market.

Joining our Marine Assurance team, this role will deliver marine specialist logistics support on long-term secondment to one of our valued Operator Clients. The Marine Specialist Candidate will be embedded within the Operators organisation and will report to the Marine Leader.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The candidate shall support the Marine Leader in providing the principal expertise in the specialist field of marine operations to support the Operators activity as required by internal policies and marine operations governing standards. Candidate is required to schedule, plan, prepare, manage and supervise various offshore marine operations, and provide Company Marine Representation for dynamic positioning operations, rig move operations, specialist vessel operations, offshore buoy maintenance and third party anchoring operations, liaising with the line management and client departments as necessary. Additionally, the Candidate shall:

  • Provide support for all marine auditing requirements, which includes auditing of a wide range of offshore vessels, such as MODU’s and DSV and other specialist vessels, and contractors’ management systems, ensuring full compliance with Company CMS.
  • Act as Company Representative for work groups ensuring Company position on marine issues is put forward and full briefing to management provided.
  • Manage and maintain customer relationships with other departments as required including Naval Architects, Marine Technical Authority at Asset Level and Headquarter Marine Specialists.
  • Provide specialist Marine support to Drilling, Projects, Logistics, Subsea Engineers and other clients regarding operation, preparation and technical review of Call for tender, ensuring Client satisfaction. This includes monitoring of “third party” operations where Company assets are involved (for example pipeline crossings, rig moves near pipelines, DSV, diving etc).
  • Ensure all operations under job holder’s supervision are conducted safely and within agreed SLA’s.
  • Provide support to maintain a satisfactory buoyage system on location for each subsea installation, as required and identified by Company Corporate Policy for buoyage facilities.
  • Support the Marine Leader to achieve timely notification and Consents to locate from required Government Authorities for all Marine Consents ensuring no delay to Company planned Operations. This includes routine communication to / from BEIS for all Offshore Navaids and reporting of failures in liaison with the OIMs as required.
  • Contributes to technical evaluation and selection of contractors and ensure that technical Contractor selection is carried out in accordance with Company requirements and that safety assessment is a part of the selection process. This includes the requirement to ensure the required auditing of the Contractors SMS is carried out in accordance with Company procedures, and that Contractors working on Company sites are formally advised of appropriate site safety regulations, and, for Major Contractors, appropriate interface / contingency procedures are issued prior to offshore operations.
  • Implement and liaise with Marine Transport Operations HSE Department for annual vessels owners SQM.
  • Assist the Marine Leader by providing regular reports and updates to the regarding marine operations and vessels status.
  • Manage Marine Consultancy Contracts and Expenditure.
  • Provide marine support to the affiliate in the absence of the Marine Leader.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to the SHE Policy.
  • Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance will all relevant Statutory and Company SHE standards.
  • Actively participate in Company Safety Awareness and initiative schemes.

  • Candidate Specification:

  • The Job Holder will preferably be a Master Mariner, STCW Class 1 (unlimited), senior officer and other qualifications will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Experience working on vessels within the North Sea Oil and Gas industry would be preferred.
  • DP Qualification would be preferred.
  • Preferably 5 years Oil and Gas Industry Experience, with a considerable portion of this being spent within an Oil and Gas operator or with a Marine consultancy.
  • Experience and knowledge of a wide range of offshore support vessels. Dynamic positioning systems, logistics vessels, diving and construction vessels, semi-submersible and jack up units.
  • Experience with Vessel assurance audits , OVID , MSF , CMID & DP.
  • Preferred experience in offshore representation for Rig Moves , both on MOU and AHV.
  • Experience in reviewing Rig Move , project vessel and operational procedures.
  • Experience in Vessel DP Systems would be advantageous.
  • Able to work to strict deadlines.
  • Able to work within a close team but also being able to work independently.
  • Proven record of achievement within marine operations.
  • Good awareness of industry / transportation trends, philosophies, best practice etc.
  • Able to work from Westhill office at short notice and as required.
  • Personnel who are IR35 compliant and/or current staff preferable.
