To provide Clinical Technical Services in electronics for a wide range of medical equipment across the Trust, Private Hospitals and Clinical Practices for which MEBS has a commitment. To undertake repair, maintenance, quality control and development of the equipment. The post holder will have technical responsibility for a broad range of work, and will be expected to work to a high level of skill to resolve technical issues.
The post holder will require a working knowledge of networking to install and diagnose faults for network connected equipment.

Main duties of the job

1. You will play an important role as a member of a friendly, professional and highly experienced team, committed to providing a high quality service in line with the Trust’s ‘Together Towards First Class’ initiative.

2. The MEBS department provides an Equipment Management Services to the Trust. 

3. The post holder will undertake repair, maintenance, quality control and development of medical equipment. The post holder will have technical responsibility for a broad range of work, and will be expected to work to a high level of skill to resolve technical issues.

4. The post holder will require a working knowledge of networking to install and diagnose faults for network connected equipment.

5. The post holder will be required to participate in the blood gas Rota on a regular basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To provide an electronics service for a wide range of complex electronic medical equipment. This includes, but is not restricted to: life-support and monitoring equipment specific to intensive care units and Patient areas, in-vitro equipment such as Blood Gas Analysers, and equipment used within the Surgical Environment.

2. Fault diagnosis and repair:

  •  To diagnose faults and breakdowns on the above equipment at a first response level often within the Clinical Environment.
  • To undertake, independently, repair of faults and breakdowns on the above equipment often in the Clinical environment.
  • To undertake, under supervision, repair of complex faults and breakdowns on the above equipment usually in the Workshop environment.
  • To technically interpret reports of faults from nursing and medical staff; and to discuss complex aspects of equipment operation with scientists, technologists and manufacturers engineers.
  • 3. Planned Preventative Maintenance and Quality Control:

  •  To carry out acceptance and safety checks on relevant equipment to ensure compliance with current Department of Health recommendations.
  •  To undertake the commissioning of the above equipment.
  • To carry out quality control checks and calibration of medical and laboratory equipment specific to intensive care units.
  • When required, to participate in the daily quality control checks and preventative maintenance of Blood Gas Analysers.
  • To ensure that Preventive Maintenance jobs are carried out in a timely manner to ensure that equipment is within date and safe for clinical use.
  • 4. To supervise external contractors carrying out equipment installation, commissioning, service or repair activities.
