Our client is now looking for a Finance General Ledger Assistant to join their busy team in Birkenhead!

Salary: £22,941 Per Annum

9 month FTC (Maternity leave)

This role is a full-time basis working 37 hours per week. They operate a hybrid working system, 2 days in the office and 3 working from home. The office is easily accessible from most transport links with just a short walk from Hamilton Square train station and local bus routes. Free parking is provided to staff either on site or nearby.

The role of Finance General Ledger Assistant reports directly to the Assistant Financial Accountant.

The overall purpose of the role will be to support the provision of a quality financial management and accountancy service carrying out accounting and budgetary control procedures in order that budgets, final accounts and the financial management requirements are provided in accordance with statutory requirements.

Finance General Ledger Assistant Duties:

  • Prepare and post weekly and monthly rent journals for group entities.
  • Prepare and post monthly payroll journals, and prepare payroll reconciliations.
  • Prepare and post monthly prepayment and accruals, and other regular monthly journals to the ledger (Open Accounts). Reconcile balance sheet accrual accounts and resolve queries.
  • Prepare schedules for payments due to 3rd parties, such as the Local Authority, and raise payment requests.
  • Process cash and cheques logging and paying-in, and collect petty cash from the bank. Post of standing order payments onto rent accounts. Resolve queries from Income Team.
  • Prepare calculations for right to acquire & right to buy applications.
  • Adhere to month end closedown procedures.
  • Run month end budget monitoring reports from Open Accounts and email to budget holders. Deal with any resulting queries.
  • Assist with month-end procedures and assist with any other tasks to support the finance team.
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end notes to the accounts and audit schedules.

Finance General Ledger Assistant Requirements:

  • AAT qualified or extensive relevant experience in a similar environment
  • Housing sector experience is desirable
  • Experience of using an accounting ledger system (Open Accounts desirable)
  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office applications (in particular Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to understand financial information and produce accurate numerical work
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Able to work to tight deadlines
