The Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) works with a unique network of academics and decision-makers in government to improve the use of evidence and expertise in public policy. Our approach is based on addressing the questions which policy makers identify, and on building relationships characterised by mutual understanding, respect and trust. The Centre is administratively anchored in Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS).

CJBS leverages the power of academia for real world impact to transform individuals, organisations and society. Since 1990, Cambridge Judge has forged a reputation as a centre of rigorous thinking and high-impact transformative education, situated within one of the world’s most prestigious research universities, and in the heart of the Cambridge Cluster, the most successful technology entrepreneurship cluster in Europe.

The Centre for Science and Policy is now seeking an Associate Director to develop and lead a major new programme to address pressing public policy challenges ¿ bringing senior policy makers and academics together to forge new collaborations.

The new role will deliver CSaP’s programme of Policy Workshops, which bring academics and policy makers together to co-produce responses to policy challenges. The role-holder will also oversee CSaP’s relationships with academics at the University of Cambridge and support them to build policy engagement into their research.

Candidates will have an outstanding record of focusing on the relationship between science and public policy. They are expected to demonstrate the vision and leadership to develop a new engagement programme alongside CSaP’s existing knowledge brokering activities. They will share a commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive institutional culture. They will hold a relevant postgraduate qualification or have equivalent professional experience.

Ideally candidates will have experience of working in Higher Education or a policy role, and will have knowledge of the ‘impact’ agenda in research funding. They will also have excellent communication skills – both oral and written. The successful candidate will have outstanding team-working and leadership skills. They will have an excellent track record of working with stakeholders and building collaborations.

The funds for the role are available for two years initially.
