Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £27, to £30,, with potential progression once in post to £34,.

Grade 6

Part Time, Fixed Term contract up to 30 June .

Background

To assist in research (by carrying out data collection or analyses) to create knowledge through providing research support for projects and research groups.

The project is a 15 month qualitative study involving interviews with patients newly diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and primary care health professionals in order understand the presentations of atrial fibrillation. Patients will be recruited from General Practices in the West Midlands.

The post holder will assist the PI for the study by carrying out data collection and analyses. The post holder will be responsible for arranging and conducting interviews with patients and healthcare professionals, managing the study data and general administration tasks in relation to the project.

Role Summary

  • Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews

  • Working with the West Midlands Clinical Research Network to recruit GP practices to the study;

  • Support the practices to identify and invite eligible patients to participate in the study

  • Conduct interviews with patients and primary care professionals

  • Coding and analyse research data as directed

  • Contribute to publications

  • Main Duties

  • Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews

  • Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters

  • Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods

  • Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research

  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines

  • Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research

  • Person Specification

  • Postgraduate degree in health services research or closely related discipline

  • Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques

  • Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively

  • Demonstratable experience in qualitative research including interviewing patients

  • Experience of Nvivo qualitative software

  • Ability to access and organise resources successfully

  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act , and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
